The most beautiful word in the world: Yakamoz
"Yakamoz", Turkish for "the moon's reflection in water" is the most beautiful word in the world. Second place goes to the Chinese "hu lu" (to snore), third to "volongoto" (Luganda for disorganised, chaotic). 2.469 people from 58 countries sent in their favourite words this year. A jury made up of television personalities Marion Brasch and Jörg Thadeusz and the author Inka Parei decided which deserved particular distinction. The submissions were evaluated on the originality of the word, its cultural particularity and the quality of the author's argument. This ABC does not pretend to be in any way comprehensive. It simply draws attention to the variety of languages and cultures that exist. We would like to thank all those who submitted for their creativity and our translators for their interpretation in German terms. We hope you will enjoy “the most beautiful ABC of the world” – that you find new favourites, learn of new languages and enjoy, together with the authors, the wonderfully huge world of words!
