Public information and public relations work is aimed at – among other things – international crisis prevention, strengthening civil society and human rights. The ifa is involved in helping to develop balanced, professional and objective reporting in the media in a range of countries abroad by organising media dialogues. The issues of stereotypes and prejudices were dealt with early on in the dialogue; the discussion now focuses on subjects like the social and legal position of women, cultural globalisation, young people and political participation, as well as tolerance and freedom of opinion. The subjects discussed in the media dialogues are at times followed up on with media study tours at the end of some of the conferences. The conferences are organised on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office.
